Important

Your actual eligibility may depend on your immigration history, absences from the UK, visa conditions, English language requirements, Life in the UK Test, suitability requirements and other Immigration Rules.

01

Select your immigration route

Choose the route you are using to qualify for settlement.

02

Enter your qualifying date

Enter the date from which your qualifying settlement period should be counted.

This should be the date relevant to your qualifying ILR period. Do not automatically assume that your first visa grant date is the correct date for every immigration route.

Not sure which date to use?

Check your visa history, previous grants of permission and the Immigration Rules that apply to your route.

03

When did you first enter the UK?

This is useful for checking your timeline, although the calculator does not automatically replace the qualifying start date with your physical entry date.

Optional. Enter the date you physically entered the UK for the first time under the relevant immigration permission.

04

When does your current visa expire?

We use this date to warn you if your current permission may expire before your estimated ILR application date.

What is an ILR calculator?

An ILR calculator is a tool that can help you estimate when you may be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK.

The qualifying period depends on your immigration route. Many settlement routes use a five-year qualifying period, while the Long Residence route generally uses ten years of lawful continuous residence.

How does the 28-day ILR rule work?

For routes where the rules allow an application up to 28 days before the qualifying period is completed, the calculator subtracts 28 days from the date on which the qualifying period is reached.

Applying too early can result in an application being refused. Always check the latest GOV.UK guidance before submitting your application.

ILR qualifying periods by route

Route Typical qualifying period Calculator
Skilled Worker / Health & Care Worker 5 years 28-day estimate
UK Ancestry 5 years 28-day estimate
BN(O) 5 years 28-day estimate
Partner / Family 5-year route 5 years 28-day estimate
Family 10-year route 10 years 28-day estimate
Long Residence 10 years Route-specific

What else do I need for ILR?

Reaching the qualifying date does not automatically mean that you qualify for ILR.

Depending on your route, you may need to meet requirements relating to continuous residence, absences, English language, the Life in the UK Test, suitability, salary, employment, sponsorship, relationship and other immigration conditions.

ILR Calculator FAQs

Can I apply for ILR 28 days before my qualifying date?

For routes where the Immigration Rules permit the 28-day early application period, you may be able to apply up to 28 days before completing the required qualifying period. Check the rules for your specific route before applying.

Does my visa expiry date determine my ILR date?

Not normally. Your ILR eligibility date is generally connected to your qualifying residence period and the rules applicable to your route. Your visa expiry date is important because you must maintain valid immigration permission where required.

Is this calculator official?

No. This is an independent calculator created for NimrajPatel.com. It is not operated by the UK Home Office or GOV.UK.

Does the calculator check my ILR eligibility?

No. It estimates a date based on the information you enter. It does not assess your full immigration history, absences, suitability, documents or other eligibility requirements.

What is the Long Residence ILR route?

The Long Residence route is generally based on 10 years of lawful and continuous residence in the UK. Different rules apply to the qualifying period and current permission requirements, so you should check the latest GOV.UK guidance.
